We thought it was about time to add some more delicious coffee to our offering and where better to start than with the original speciality coffee Social Enterprise.

What we love: Old Spike’s primary mission is to help reduce homelessness in the UK through training and employment within speciality coffee. Whether that's assisting the head roaster at the roastery or working in one of the cafes as a barista, Old Spike are committed to supporting their trainees from training to employment.

Old Spike's ethics are based on the principles of direct trade, quality and seasonality. Sourcing direct from the country of origin and working only with high grade, seasonal coffee, they are able to secure a better price for the farmer which can be 4-5 times higher than the Fairtrade minimum.

Brenda’s family used to produce commodity coffee on Finca Captzin before Brenda got involved in the farm activities. In 2017 when the coffee market prices started to decrease and coffee was no longer profitable for them, Brenda’s parents considered selling the farm and going in search of new opportunities. However Brenda believed that she could save the farm by focusing more on speciality coffee which is of a much higher quality than commodity grade coffee and commands a much higher market price.

Over the past few years Brenda has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of coffee produced, and it has paid off, as she has successfully saved the family farm which she now runs with the help of her husband and brother. “We now know that our coffee has better quality and better flavor. It is exciting to know that people from all over the world enjoy my coffee with its notes and flavors.” says Brenda. Guatemalan coffees are known for being full bodied, bright and sweet and this delightful drop is no different! Sweet rich toffee notes bring the body and a raspberry acidity helps brighten the cup. A seriously yummy drop perfect for the filter fanatics.
