Natural Water Filter lasts for 6 months
It makes tap water taste great!

vacuum foil packed individually
pre-washed and ready to use
can be used in our EAU GOOD bottle, EAU CARAFE or any jug or bottle (*minimum spout opening 30mm / 1.2in)
Our charcoal is made from natural wood sticks and dimensions vary (15 to 28mm diameter, maximum length 118mm)
When was Binchotan charcoal first used? About 1,200 years ago, a form of Binchotan charcoal, also called ‘white charcoal’, was thought to have been used in Japan by a Japanese monk, and scholar named Kukai. But it wasn’t until the Edo Period in the 17th century that it became really popular.
How do you make Binchotan charcoal? A kiln is set to a relatively low temperature to heat a piece of sustainably sourced wood for a long time. Near the end of this heating process, the kiln’s temperature is increased to 1000 degrees celsius until the wood is red hot. It’s removed from the kiln and placed under a combination of sand, soil and ash which rapidly cools it, and leaves a white residue. This is why you may hear of Binchotan charcoal referred to as ‘white charcoal’. After this cooling process, the surface will become hard and smooth and if you tap, it will make a metallic sound.
How does it filter impurities? Binchotan charcoal doesn’t just remove impurities, it also is able to release minerals like potassium back into the water. It’s covered in tiny little cavities which attract impure ions like chlorine and binds them to the charcoal, leaving the water filtered. In fact, there’s so many of these small holes that just 1 gram of charcoal has enough surface area to cover one tenth the size of a football field!
What amount of water can be filtered with a charcoal stick? If you want to use your bottle every day, you can filter about 1.1L of water for 3 months. Just add more charcoal sticks if your container or jug is larger.
How long does a charcoal stick last? Filling your bottle once a day (either our ‘Eau Good’ range or another 800ml bottle), every day for 3 months will require the charcoal to be boiled for 10 minutes to recharge it. Then you can use it for another 3 months.
What should I do with my charcoal stick when it’s done? There’s many things you can do with Binchotan charcoal after you’ve finished using it: it removes bad smells if added to cat litter trays or nappy bins, it removes moisture from the air if you add it to your wardrobe or drawers, and it adds nutrients to the soil if you pop it in with your houseplants (break it up first).
Should I wash my charcoal? No, it’s already washed and can go straight into your bottle.
What else can I add to the water with my charcoal stick? You shouldn’t add anything else to the water you want to filter with a charcoal stick, this includes fruit, herbs, teas or infusions.
Is charcoal bad for you if you swallow it? Sometimes, small pieces or flakes of charcoal will break off and be found floating in your water. Don’t worry if you should swallow any of these, they are not dangerous. In fact, charcoal is sometimes used to treat things like upset stomachs, diarrhea and even hangovers.
How do I wash my bottle if the charcoal is in it? Simply remove the charcoal stick before washing any bottle, carafe or other vessel with soap.
How does it work? For best results, pre-fill with hot water for hot food, or cold water for chilled food, for about 3 minutes and empty before you use it (DO NOT overfill your flask). Leave sufficient space at the top to fit the lid. The top of the flask is wider than most liquid flasks, therefore you can heat your food to the maximum temperature possible to have optimal heat retention. Lid must be hand-tightened but without extra force as the extreme temperatures will make it more difficult to open your food flask.
How do I look after my FOOD FLASK? This product must NOT be used for keeping milk products or baby food warm or cool. Don’t keep perishable foods for a prolonged period. Keep out of reach of children when the product contains hot liquids. Before screwing down the lid, please make sure that the sealing ring is undamaged and fully fits into its pocket. Transport upright. Hot liquids can cause scalding.
How do I clean my FOOD FLASK? Clean with warm water, a sponge and washing-up liquid prior to initial use and after every use. DO NOT immerse in water. Dry thoroughly after leaving it to drain. Always store with the lid removed.
How do I remove stains? Fill with hot water, add one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (DO NOT put lid on while using this cleaning method). For best results soak overnight. Always rinse before reuse. To avoid stains and residue, wash with a solution of vinegar and water.
Is the FOOD FLASK microwave safe? No, it is made from stainless steel and is not microwave safe.
Is the FOOD FLASK dishwasher safe? No, it is made from stainless steel and is not microwave safe.
How do I prevent vacuum forming in my Food Flask? If you have removed the silicone seal for cleaning, please ensure it is replaced correctly on the lid. There should be no colour visible next to the central steel circular panel.
Is the Sandwich Box dishwasher safe? No, both the Sandwich Box and the bamboo board are not dishwasher safe.
Is the Sandwich Box leak proof? No, but our Box Appetit, Stainless Steel box and Bento Boxes are.
How should the box and bamboo board be treated and cared for? Clean your box and bamboo board with hot soapy water or a dilution of bleach and water (1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon / 4.5l of water). Do not leave the board soaking in water and make sure to dry it with a tea towel or kitchen roll after cleaning. To keep the bamboo board in a good condition, we recommend using a food safe mineral oil and applying with a cotton cloth once a month (if you are using the board regularly). Make sure you wipe off any excess oil. This will ensure that it does not dry out and crack.
What are the benefits of bamboo as a board material? Technically speaking, bamboo is a grass and not a wood. It is a sustainable resource due to the fact that it grows so quickly and can be harvested. It is a very dense wood and this means that it holds less moisture compared with other wooden boards. It also makes it less prone to warping (if cared for correctly).
